Common Questions

Painting your home or business is sometimes a difficult decision, thats what we are here for! If you have a question about painting or just need some tips please feel free to contact us by email at nate@sommerscustompainting.com

Is painting/staining my home or business really necessary?

ABSOLUTELY YES! Painting or staining your walls and trim not only adds protection to your drywall, trim, doors, and windows but it adds significant value to your home or business even if its mostly the same color. Paint and stain are not impenetrable but they add a much needed moisture barrier to protect your home from mold and rot.

01

What shine is best for my walls?

Shine or Sheen in paint is the level of bright shine your walls will have when the paint has been applied and dried. The levels are Flat, Low-Sheen, Eggshell, Satin, Semi-Gloss, and Gloss. Flat paints typically work best with lighter colors and for ceilings. Higher shines are best for deeper colors and bathrooms. The highest shines are usually used for painting trim or doors. But there are no limits to what you can do with different colors and shines on any surface!

02

How often should I caulk and paint the wood or siding on my homes exterior?

Generally you should have your homes exterior re-caulked and re-painted every 3-6 years to properly upkeep your home. Although paint and caulking products guarentee long lasting performance, these products often break down and crack with moisture/pressure from extreme weather over the years. Maintaining your exterior will protect against mold, mildew, and rotting wood from intrusive moisture.

03

What kinds of paint do you use?

We do not endorse any specific brand of paint but we have tested and successfully applied these products: Sherwin Williams Paints, Lowes/Home Depot Paints, Porter Paints, and Farrell-Calhoun Paints.

04

How soon are you available?
